Air Malta goes back to the drawing board

After the lukewarm welcome that Air Malta’s livery received since it was launched by executive chairman David Curmi more than a year ago, the highest echelons at SkyParks, Level 2 had to go back to the drawing board and come back with a more palatable Eurowhite livery. Well placed sources within Level 2, have given MAviO News exclusive access to the new revised livery being proposed and which should make its debut on 9H-NEE in mid-March. The livery will do away with the blue stripes of the late eighties and early nineties that are intrinsically tied with the reign of Gozitan magnate Joe N Tabone.

The new Eurowhite livery has come in for some heavy criticism and disparaging comments. MAviO News is reliably informed that there have been heated discussions behind closed doors lasting well after office hours to try and remedy for the PR blunder. Well-known local pilot and MATS employee Daniel Pullicino was one of the first to come up with a series of alternatives to what was being proposed by the national carrier after MAviO News broke the story with 3-D renderings by IT partners Radiosity Alpha. It appears that some of his ideas have been taken onboard by the senior management team at KM.

The new livery may also be associated with some drastic changes that KM will have to go through in the coming six weeks. Original plans, which had envisaged a new outfit taking a more central role seem to have been put on the back burner due to external factors which are intertwined with the EU’s stance on the airline’s bailout. The now largely revised plans, may benefit Malta MedAir which as a direct result of the hellzapoppin at AMC may well find itself in pole position to take a more central role in the local aviation scene.
