Earlier in the day the MAviO board led by CEO Marvic Bugeja, Senior University of Malta lecturer Riccardo Flask and bankerJoanne Calleja held a cordial meeting with Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Dr Aaron Farrugia. Ms Bugeja took time to illustrate in detail the huge work done on a voluntary basis by the MAviO board and also handed over a memento related to its latest initiative. A framed copy of the July/August issue of Skyliner Aviation & News, prominently featuring an Edelweiss Airbus A320 at Malta International Airport with the iconic Our Lady of Loreto chapel in the background was presented to Dr Farrugia. The cover photo was taken by one of Malta’s top aircraft spotters Mario Caruana. Joanne Calleja took time to explain how MAviO collaborates with more than 12 aeronautical media outlets, including several top-selling magazines while also delving into the 2023 Enemed MAviO Awards which are the only ones on the island giving due recognition to Maltese individuals and entities that contribute to the amelioration of the local aviation scene.
Deputy CEO Riccardo Flask took time to focus on the work carried out by the MAviO “think tank” which is chaired by Captain Sinclair Portelli. Since its inception the ”think tank” has prepared detailed reports on a number of issues afflicting the Maltese aviation scene including the ongoing debate on the Gozo airstrip and the proposed aviation policy. The meeting has also allowed Minister Aaron Bugeja to get more acquainted with the role that MAviO plays within the local aviation scene and its contribution in the dissemination of aviation news from the island.
