Air Malta has taken a Getjet Airbus A 320ceo on ACMI lease to provide additional capacity during the peak Summer season. During the past six weeks, the Maltese national carrier has also been forced to lease an A319 from HiFly Malta and a similar aircraft from AMELIA to cover for some days, as its own aircraft had to undergo unscheduled maintenance.
This is not the first time that Air Malta leases aircraft from Getjet. In 2018, the company leased an array of aircraft from a myriad of operators to cope with its then ever expanding summer schedule. The issue of ACMI leases during June/July 2018 became a political controversy, that was even raised during parliamentary debates. Issues cropped up at airports in Sicily and Italy, when some passengers insisted on flying a KM plane and not a leased one.
